What We Grow

HOW PLANTS ARE
GROWN MATTERS

At Tanager, I grow native plants from seed whenever possible to ensure genetic diversity and local adaptation.

My growing practices include:

  • Using my own blend of peat-free, living soil with base material from Dirtcraft® Organics

  • Relying on organic-approved methods and cultural IPM

  • Starting with biodegradable or repurposed containers

  • Collecting propagation material and seed from our local region (with permission and care)

These details aren’t just checkboxes—they’re part of a larger ethic of growing with the land, not against it.

Fall Planting Season Is Underway!

Fall is the number one best time for planting as the cooler temperatures and more frequent rainfall make the job easier for both you and the plants.

Perennials are flying out of the greenhouse currently, but I still have a decent inventory including plug trays and 4" biodegradable pots to make large plantings easier on your budget.  I have more species of trees available right now than ever before!  Most of them are straight species natives appropriate for post-Helene recovery plantings as well as ornamental landscape designs.

Order now to reserve native plant stock for your next planting project. If you have special species requests, by all means, let me know!
